With less than two minutes to play in the second half, Coastal was assessed a false start penalty for “Everyone but the center.” UTSA continued to attack redshirt freshman Tad Hudson, making it unpleasant to be in the pocket. Coastal Carolina will try to look for a starting quarterback this offseason, among other tweaks, to try to fill the void that is the transfer portal. Georgia Southern shut Coastal Carolina out in the second half with thirteen unanswered points to win the game 26-6 and spoil Senior Night in Conway. Coastal Carolina must now win its last game of the season on the road against Georgia State, which is 3-8 on the year, to become bowl-eligible. Too many mental mistakes and three interceptions on the night would hinder Coastal from being able to get in any rhythm on offense.
Coastal Carolina came into the game with a mindset of putting points on the board and scoring more than ODU. This is the formula for how you win football games outside of winning the turnover battle and winning the TOP (Time Of Possession). One thing is sure: the number of penalties wasn’t on either scouting report, which is a weakness. Coastal Carolina would overcome 15 penalties for 145 yards against ODU.
Coastal Carolina came into the game having won three games in five seasons against Power Conference opponents, the last of which was a victory over Kansas in 2021. Virginia would go into the contest having had a 100-yard receiver in the previous nine games. The day’s story would not be Virginia’s passing yards but its ability to run the football on Coastal.
