The Atlanta Falcons receiving corp production hasn’t been up to par for a couple of years now. The Falcons fans hope that will change this year with the addition of three time Pro Bowl quarterback, Kirk Cousins. In his career thus far, Cousins has thrown for almost 40,000 yards, all the while piling up 270 TD’s.

The city has high expectations this year, as it does every year, but the fans want to win now. Things haven’t been the same since the monumental collapse in the Super Bowl against New England in 2017. One area of concern for the Falcons is it’s young receiving corp who hasn’t had much production in the past 2 years.

Outside of first round pick Drake London, who totaled 905 yards last season, but only found the end zone twice, the production has been scarce at best. Kyle Pitts totaled 667 yards receiving during last years season, but again, only 3 TD’s. The Falcons will come and go with the numbers from the wide receivers during this season, but have you noticed a trend? They have to make it in the endzone and put 6 points on the board. With Cousins coming off of a torn achilles, he must have time to find the receivers and move the football.

Kyle Pitts must be looked at as Cousins security blanket.

Atlanta tried to bolster It’s roster at the receiving position with the additions of Rondale Moore who is now out for the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury during joint practice with the Miami Dolphins. The Falcons also signed former Bears speedster Darnell Mooney as an added weapon. They would draft rookie wide receiver Casey Washington out of Illinois, who looks to contribute immediately.

Having a QB like Cousins coming in can only help this roster find their footing. Drake London’s name has been mentioned as potentially being “overrated” but has clearly lacked the production to make such an observation thus far. As long as Cousins stays healthy, the targets will be up, ball distribution will spread, which should all be reflected on the scoreboard on Sundays. Options are good, especially when it comes to the passing attack.

Changes on the defensive side of the ball have also taken place. The Falcons added edge rusher Matthew Judon, and safety Justin Simmons. As long as the defense keeps the Falcons in the game, Kirk Cousins experience, veteran leadership, ability to attract talent, and decision making should give them an opportunity to compete each week.
